Awa Yawatan Machi Festival

Awa Yawatan Machi Festival
安房やわたんまち(鶴谷八幡宮例祭大祭)

DO: This is the largest event hosted by the Tsurugaya Hachiman-gu Shrine, located in the heart of Tateyama. The festival also involves ten smaller and larger shrines all located in the area. Each shrine brings their mikoshi portable shrines and dashi pull carts to race against each other and parade across town as they make as much noise as possible. Also be on the lookout for child-sized mikoshi and the many food stands that are lined up on the alley that leads to Hachiman-gu (locally known as Yawata Shrine).

WHEN: a weekend in mid September
